You travel across the city to try new food, and you know what good food looks and tastes like. You love keeping up with all the openings, closings, and making friends with industry people. You love sharing your love of food with others and sharing your food related experiences with your friends.


This is a full time opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing media organization that’s dedicated to connecting audiences and growing communities. 


About You:

  • You have a experience writing for a print or online publication.
  • You love food, from the stripmall restaurant to fine dining, you live and breathe food and restaurant culture.
  • You know the Halifax food scene inside and out.
  • You can build contacts quickly and will pick up the phone and make the call (or send an IG DM).
  • You have deep knowledge of the digital world, and understand how social media and other platforms impact journalism.
  • You have excellent communication, organizational, presentation and people leadership skills.
  • You have demonstrated digital media knowledge and expertise, including understanding of native content, content marketing, and social media best practices and tactics.
  • You know how to use WordPress and similar CMS platforms, and ActiveCampaign or a similar ESP.
  • You know how to take droolworthy photos and videos of food.


The opportunity:

  • Regularly contribute stories on what’s happening in Halifax’s food scene.
  • Maintain high quality copy across formats, following in-house style 
  • Collaborate with the team on The Coast’s newsletter, web, and social media, attending and contributing to regular story meetings.
  • Multimedia duties as needed, such as photography, videography and audio recording.
  • Maintain a roster of local contacts and news-makers.
  • Edit stories as needed.
  • Travel as required across Halifax, Nova Scotia, and beyond.
  • Conduct interviews and attend events, representing The Coast.
  • Grow The Coast to become a leading voice and essential media brand in the community.
  • Increase credibility of the publication and organization through quality, trustworthy and ethical work.
  • Embrace and encourage a culture based on teamwork, creativity and having fun.

Who we are: 

Overstory Media Group is an independent media company that delivers high-quality, fact-based journalism and storytelling to the communities we’re in. At OMG our goal is to empower communities – connected by geography, industry, or interest – with information delivered by the people within them.

 

We do this by identifying journalists, creators, and existing brands who share in this belief and provide tools, resources, and financial support to help them create in their communities.


Today we have 12 community brands across Canada under our umbrella. We plan to continue building – by 2023 we will add 250 people to our headcount and launch 50 new community brands. Some of the newsletter-based journalism outlets we’ve built to date include Capital Daily, Vancouver Tech Journal, Burnaby Beacon, and Fraser Valley Current.
